I went on the pill at 14 or 15 because it was supposed to help with my debilitating menstrual cramps. I lived on ibuprofen in high school, popping two pills every four hours for those few excruciating days each month. In college, this happened to come up with a university nurse, who told me to try naproxen (Aleve) instead. Two pills at the first hint of pain, then one more if it comes back. I almost never needed the second dose; naproxen somehow got rid of them. How did no one tell me this sooner??? At 28, I switched to a Kyleena IUD, and my period stopped altogether — and so did the cramps.
